More patient parking spaces and a green space are coming soon to BWH. When the Brigham Patient Parking project is complete, the asphalt drive that is currently in front of the Peter Bent Brigham building will be replaced with a landscaped area that resides over an underground parking garage.
“We’re excited about the enhancements that the Brigham Patient Parking project will bring to BWH’s Longwood campus,” said Arthur Mombourquette, vice president of Support Services and interim vice president of Human Resources. “The new garage will help alleviate the acute patient parking shortage we currently face, and the additional green space will help restore the 15 Francis St. entry back to the grandeur displayed when the Peter Bent Brigham was built in 1913.”
In addition to the 400 patient parking spaces, the parking garage will include 74 bike spaces. The newly landscaped space, which also encompasses a new bus stop with improved waiting facilities, will run from the top of the ramp at the entry drive down to Francis Street. Major construction will begin in April 2012, with an anticipated completion date of April 2014.
The project also includes a renovation to Carrie Hall and the clinics building basement. Both are expected to be complete this winter.
BWH leadership will hold information sessions and provide updates to those affected throughout the construction process.
